Frontier Takes the Next Step
Frontier Drum and Bugle Corps is pleased to announce the appointment of its administrative team for 2007/2008.

When Frontier Performing Arts Association (FPAA, the parent organization for Frontier) was formed, Chris Green served as both the Executive Director of FPAA and Corps Director of Frontier Drum & Bugle Corps.  It was expected that once stability was achieved within the organization, he would step down as the corps director and focus on the activities of FPAA.  That time has arrived and FPAA is pleased to pass the reigns of Frontier Drum & Bugle Corps to a trusted team while Chris focuses on the larger picture of FPAA, serving multiple ensembles.

Manny Guerrero is the new director for the Frontier Drum and Bugle corps.  Manny is a band director in the Denton ISD and is starting his second year at Calhoun MS.  He graduated from Texas Wesleyan University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Music Education with Trombone emphasis.  Manny is a charter member of the Brazos Chamber Orchestra that began in 1999.  He performs as principal trombonist.  He has performed with several Big Bands in the north Texas area and freelances throughout the DFW area playing in ensembles with a variety of music styles.  Manny marched as lead baritone for Frontier in 2007 and looks forward to leading the corps into its next stage of development.

Also appointed is Carl Diefenbach to the position of Program Coordinator.  Carl is originally from Wintersville, Ohio.  He started his drum corps career with a short stint in the Butler Vagabonds Drum & Bugle Corps from Butler, PA.

Carl served in the US Marine Drum & Bugle Corps from 29 Palms, CA, after graduating high school, then aged out of the Velvet Knights Drum & Bugle corps in 1985 when his Marine contract expired.  He then joined the US Army and did tours with Army Bands in Fort Drum, NY, Hawaii, Aberdeen, MD, and Washington, DC.

Carl is currently with the 122nd Army Band in Columbus, OH, as the Readiness NCO, Stage Band Director, Rock Band Director, and Drum Major.  His drum corps and marching band experience include US Marine Drum & Bugle Corps (29 Palms, CA) (member & Visual Staff), US Naval Academy D&B (Music & Visual Staff), Velvet Knights (member and Visual Staff), Empire Statesmen (member), Kingston Grenadiers (Visual Designer & Staff), Rochester Crusaders (Visual Designer and Staff), Sunrisers (Visual Staff) and many marching bands and winter guards in the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, and Texas.

Carl is joining Frontier as full staff member this year following a successful collaboration with Frontier as a consultant last year.

2007/1968 - What A Season!!
2007 ended up being quite an exciting year for Frontier, taking us a step closer to being one of the best drum corps in the DCA activity.  It's a good year when you gain fans.  It's a great year when you gain as many fans as we did!

With performances in the Meyerson Symphony Center at Christmas and opening for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in May, Frontier laid the groundwork for cementing the corps in the DFW arts community.  The corps added more DCA competitions this year by making Brass Hysteria a DCA sanctioned show.  For our second DCA show, we travelled to Houston at the end of July.   Then we made the yearly pilgrimage to Minnesota for a 2-day weekend of DCA shows.  In addition, the corps entertained the audiences at the DCI shows in Dallas and Denton.  Over Labor Day weekend, Frontier attended the DCA World Championship in Rochester, NY.  That Friday, The Outlaws (Frontier's 21-member mini-corps) got a standing ovation at the DCA mini-corps competition; then on Saturday at the World Championship Prelims competition, Frontier Drum & Bugle Corps put on the best performance of its 3 year existence.

In 2008, Frontier is planning big changes and leaps forward in design, performance, and corps structure that will further position Frontier in the world's elite drum corps.  Audition information is coming soon.  Staff applications are now being accepted at staff@frontiercorps.org.

Frontier Competing In Dallas & Denton DCI Shows This Week
(June 30th 2007)
For the first time in its young life, Frontier will enter the DCI field of competition.  The corps will compete at both of the DCI shows in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex: at the North Texas Festival Of Drums & Bugles on Thursday, July 19th and the Red River Thunder show on Sunday, July 22nd in Denton.  As a part of the DCI All-Age Division competition, Frontier's performances will precede the Division I, II, & III performances.

For Frontier members who got their first taste of drum corps at Lake Highlands, but who never marched junior corps, Frontier's first performance at this show will be very special.

A Big "Thank You!" To Our Donors, Sponsors And Fans
Frontier's uniform fund campaign has been a success!  We now have a set of brand new, custom designed uniforms for the corps.  Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this ambitious project.

The uniforms have now arrived and the corps was thrilled to be able to perform in them for the very first time at Brass Hysteria.  In only our third year of existence, we are increasing our competitive edge another notch with a unique and distinctive visual identity.  Yet another phenomenal accomplishment for this young corps!

Texas Drum Corps Preview

2006
Frontier a HUGE hit in Meyerson Symphony Center Debut

Frontier Drum & Bugle Corps performed on stage at the Meyerson Symphony Center as a featured guest of the Turtle Creek Chorale (TCC), world-renowned men's chorus of Dallas, for a 5 concert holiday series in November and December.

Frontier raised the rafters with a thirty-member feature performance of "O Come Emmanuel" and "O Come All Ye Faithful" and had the entire hall clapping with a 9-member feature performance of a jazzy "Good King Wenceslas."  Frontier also accompanied the 225 member TCC and the hall's Lay Family Organ in four other pieces: Personet Hodie, Ding Dong Merrily on Horn, Simple Gifts (from Appalachian Spring), and Christus Natus Est.  A percussion ensemble from Ruston, Louisianna called "3-Headed Monster" was also featured in the concert.  Click here to see recordings from the show.

Frontier's performances drew rousing ovations and rave reviews from audience members as well as the members of the TCC.

"Good lord!  You guys are fantastic!!!!!!  Frontier made the concert!  It was so cool to watch the precision too.....loved how everyone brought their horns up, etc." wrote one audience member.

"I've been a member of the Chorale for 10 years, and this is our best Christmas concert ever.  [The members of Frontier] have added so much to it.   What you perform is so positive and it has been such an inspiration to [the Chorale]." said a member of TCC.

"Frontier was an absolute delight to work with - so fun - and so professional in every way!" said Dr. Tim Seelig, Director of the TCC.

Frontier will open for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Meyerson in May.

Frontier Makes Meyerson Symphony Center Debut
The sounds of this holiday season will reverberate like none other in the 27 year history of The Turtle Creek Chorale.

The Meyerson Symphony Center has never seen, nor heard, anything quite like this.  The breathtaking sounds of 225 singing men will be accompanied by the spine-tingling majesty of the Lay Family organ plus the roof-raising sounds of 30 brass and percussion players from Frontier Drum and Bugle Corps.

Another Year, Another Record
True to form, Frontier delivers another recording-breaking performance in its second World Championships appearance.

Rochester, NY - Frontier Drum & Bugle Corps stood down tropical storm Ernesto's 50 degree temperatures, 30 mile-an-hour wind gusts, and torrential rains to deliver another record-breaking performance at Drum Corps Associates 2006 World Championships on Saturday.  Frontier's performance of their show "Fire" was the corps' second appearance in the DCA championship preliminary competition, and the corps received its highest score ever in two years of competition.

“I continue to be blown away by the dedication and desire of Frontier members to bring the corps so far so fast,” said Chris Green, Frontier’s Executive Director.  “I feel immense pride and great honor to stand before this corps as its director.”

Both the audience members (who braved the weather) and judges raved about Frontier's show and the performance, which received a score 10 points higher (out of 100) than the Championship performance last year.

The corps’ final performance of “Fire” is Saturday evening, September 16th at the Dallas Diamond’s professional women’s football game at Birdville Stadium in North Richland Hills.  “This performance will cap another successful season for the corps —- we will celebrate 2006 one more time, just for us and our fans,” said Green.

Help Frontier get New Uniforms
For the 2007 season, Frontier will be in brand new, custom designed uniforms.  After 2 seasons on the field, the corps is ready to step up and establish a visual identity that matches the identity set forth on the competitive field.

All donations received from August 1st - December 31st 2006 will go directly into the uniform fund and a portion of sales of tickets from Brass Hysteria will be dedicated to this project.

Our total goal for this program is $10,000.

With some special off season performances contracted by FPAA, we are kicking off this program with $3,500 in the Uniform account.

Currently, a demo version of the new uniform is being constructed, and will be debuted at the 2006 FPAA Banquet on September 15, 2006.  Registration for the Banquet is coming to the web soon.  For more information about the 2006 banquet, contact Chad Gulick at social@frontiercorps.org.   Members of any FPAA ensemble, family, friends, staff, and FANS are welcome to attend the banquet.  There is a charge for the event to cover catering costs.

There are several ways to donate to uniform campaign:
1 - Purchase tickets to Brass Hysteria through CrownTICKETS.
2 - Join the Voice's Circle, a dedicated monthly payment from a checking account or credit card - automatically deducted through Paypal.
3 - Join the Director's Circle, a one time cash, check or credit card donation.

You may also continue to contribute to the Family Circle (an in-kind donation of item for use or sale by FPAA), although that program is not linked to the Uniform Drive.
